
E-mail Acceptable Use Guidelines
Acceptable Use - The purpose of this e-mail system is to support
research and education and facilitate communications by providing access to
unique resources and the opportunity for collaborative work. Transmission of any material in violation of
an U.S. or state regulation is prohibited.
This includes, but is not limited to:
copyrighted material; threatening or obscene material; expressions of
bigotry, racism, or hate; or material protected by trade secret. Use for commercial activities is generally
not acceptable. Use for product
advertisement or political lobbying is also prohibited.
Network Etiquette - You are expected to abide by the generally accepted
rules of network etiquette. These
include, but are not limited to the following:
a)
Be polite. Do not get abusive in your messages to
others.
b)
Use appropriate
language. Do not swear, use vulgarities
or any other inappropriate language.
Illegal activities are strictly forbidden.
c)
Do not reveal your
personal address or phone number or those of students and colleagues.
d)
Note that electronic
mail (e-mail) is not guaranteed to be private.
e)
Do not use the e-mail
system in such a way that you would disrupt the use of the network by other
users.
Warranties - East Islip School District makes no warranties of
any kind, whether expressed or implied, for the E-mail service it is
providing. East Islip Schools will not
be responsible for any damages resulting from use of the E-mail system. This includes loss of data resulting from
delays, non-deliveries, mis-deliveries, or service interruptions caused by its
own negligence or user errors or omissions.
Use of any information obtained via the e-mail is at your own risk. East Islip Schools specifically denies any
responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through its
services.
Security - Security on any computer system is a high priority,
especially when the system involves many users. If you feel you can identify a security problem on the E-mail
system, you must notify the district’s Technology Coordinator. Do not demonstrate the problem to other
users. Attempts to log on to the E-Mail
system as a system administrator will result in cancellation of user
privileges.
Vandalism - Vandalism will result in cancellation of
privileges. Vandalism is defined as
maliciously attempting to harm or destroy data or another user, or willfully
introducing a virus, or willfully violating any local, state, or federal
copyright laws. Anyone engaging in vandalism will have their privileges
canceled.
